Yoga Poses to Boost Hair Growth

While there are numerous products that claim to do the trick, it’s not un-common to prefer a natural solution. If you fall into this category, yoga may be just what you’re looking for. When practised regularly, certain yoga postures can help hair to grow quicker. In this article, we explore the most effective yoga poses to boost hair growth. Downward Dog

When it comes to boosting hair growth, Downward Dog is a great place to start. Keeping the head below the heart, the asana provides good circulation to the head. In turn, this allows the hair follicles to function optimally. Additionally, the posture can relieve depression, insomnia, and brain fog.

To practice Downward Dog, stand with your feet directly below your shoulders. Bending at the waist, lower your torso forward so your body forms a triangle. Your hands and feet should now be planted on the floor. If tight shoulders or hamstrings are making the pose difficult, bend your knees slightly to make the posture easier. Spreading your fingers for additional balance, move your head forward until it is in-between your upper arms. You are in Downward Dog. To increase the stretch, extend your tailbone up and back whilst breathing deeply. Hold the posture for up to 2 minutes before releasing the stretch.

Forward Bend

Also known as Forward Fold, Forward Bend also encourages hair growth. Better still, the posture can im-prove blood circulation and rejuvenate the body. Additionally, Forward Bend can relieve stress and anxiety. As stress is one of the leading causes of hair loss, practising the asana can prevent hair loss from occurring.

To practice Forward Bend, stand up straight with your feet in-line with your hips. Next, hinge at the waist and lower your torso towards the floor. To minimise pressure on the lower back, keep your knees bent throughout the asana. When you can, grab your ankles and let your upper body hang towards the ground. You are in Forward Bend. Hold the asana for 30 seconds whilst breathing deeply.

Camel Pose

Camel Pose encourages blood to flow toward the scalp by opening your chest and shoulders. Additionally, the pose cleanses the thyroid gland. Issues with the thyroid are another leading cause of hair loss, so cleansing the gland can prevent hair loss from occurring.

To practice Camel Pose, kneel on your mat with your knees below your hips. Place your hands on your buttocks, keeping your fingers pointing down. Take a deep breath in and move your pelvis forward; as you do so, lean your head and torso back. At this point, you should feel a deep stretch in your upper thighs. Next, reach your left hand back and touch the heel of your left foot. If you’re flexible enough, do the same on the right side. Finally, move your pelvis forward and round your spine. You are in Camel Pose. Hold the asana for 30 seconds whilst breathing deeply. When you release the posture, try moving into Child’s Pose for a few seconds before getting up.

When practising the pose, be careful not to place too much strain on your neck. If you become uncomfortable, try using a wall as a prop. To practice using this method, face away from a wall with the soles of your feet touching it.

Gas Relieving Pose

As the name suggests, Gas Relieving Pose helps to eliminate wind. While the posture is beneficial for those with poor digestion, it also encourages blood to flow to the scalp – making it great for boosting hair growth.

To practice the asana, start by lying flat on your back. Next, bring your knees to your chest and gently rock from side to side to massage your lower back. After a few seconds, extend your left leg while keeping your right leg tucked into your chest. Allow your right thigh to rest gently on the ground. You are in Gas Relieving Pose. Hold the asana for around 30 seconds before switching sides.

Supported Headstand

Also known as Sirsasana, Supported Headstand encourages oxygen-rich blood to flow to the scalp. Addi-tionally, the posture revitalises the brain cells which promotes clear-thinking.

To practice Supported Headstand, kneel on your mat and sit back on the heels of your feet. Leaning for-ward, rest your forearms on the ground and interlock your fingers. Next, place the top of your head flat on the mat whilst pressing the back of your head against your arms. When you’re ready, gently lift your legs off the ground and extend them fully. You are in Supported Headstand. Hold the asana for 30 seconds whilst breathing deeply. If you’re struggling to maintain balance, try practising the asana against a wall, instead.
